The Rural Resilience Activity aims at protecting economic recovery and growth in vulnerable, conflict-affected areas and sustainably moving people out of vulnerability, and poverty through expanded opportunities in Agriculture and Agribusiness in Northern-eastern Nigeria.

The Activity seeks to improve the resilience capacities of conflict-affected households, communities, and market systems using market-led approaches layered with complementary investments in humanitarian assistance to contribute to economic recovery and growth. It also, seeks to reinforce practices that move away from dependency on non-market-driven initiatives.

Objectives of the Consultancy:

As part of achieving the objectives of Optimizing Agricultural Market Competitiveness via an Integrated Supply Chain Incorporating Sustainable Production and Climate-Smart Practices in the Northeast, the overall objective of the consultancy is to develop educative pictorial training materials on Crop Production Practices in line with Climate resilience and Adaption Practices for the most common Northeast Value Chain like Maize, Paddy, Soybeans, Groundnut, Sorghum, Wheat, Millet and Cowpea and conduct a Training of Trainers on it for the Agriarche Team on:

  • Pre-farming planning (the different kinds and quality of inputs, when to buy etc)
  • Pre-planting activities (how and when to prepare the land, plough, harrow, ridge etc)
  • Planting activities (methods, seed spacing etc for the different value chain)
  • Crop Maintenance activities (methods, disease and weed control, fertilizer application, etc)
  • Good Agronomic Practices
  • Harvesting activities and techniques (like methods, tools, timing, techniques etc)
  • Record keeping in Crop production (items to record, sample templates, methods, importance, etc)

The materials should capture practicable, standard, modern, quality, effective, and climate-smart inputs, tools, equipment, methods, techniques, quantity, frequencies, duration, etc used for the above-listed value chains.

Methodology and Approach:

The consultant will be required to undertake the following tasks:

  • Prepare training material (manual, PowerPoint slides, and summary of the manual for flyer content) for each of the above modules and translate them into the Hausa Language in a user-friendly manner.
  • Conduct training of Trainers sessions on the Module for the Agriarche Team.
  • Capture quality action pictures and short videos of the training sessions.
  • Conduct pre and post-training assessments and feedback to determine step-down capability.
  • Train trainers On Crop production in line with Climate Resilience and Adaptation practices

Expertise Required:

The consultant should be well experienced in the field of crop production in line with climate resilience and adaptation practices and should have the following expertise:

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in farmers training on general crop production practices related to climate resilience and adaptation practices.
  • A university degree in Agriculture or any other relevant subject.
  • Excellent understanding of Agriculture , Crop production practices, climate resilience, and adaptation practices in crop production and related to BAY - G states of Northeastern Nigeria.
  • Demonstrated experience in farmers training and farming activities in North East Nigeria.
  • Have practical experience in conducting training for farmers using participatory methods such as PRA
  • Have excellent analytical and writing skills
  • Well articulated in both written and spoken English and Hausa languages
